Coldstone Field Trip

This afternoon Ella’s little Joy School group went on a field trip to Coldstone Creamery. In my opinion Coldstone has the most delicious ice cream on the face of the earth, so I was just about as excited as Ella was for the excursion!
The first unit the girls have been learning about at Abi’s is the Joy of the Body. Her older brother works there (what a dream job!) and her mom was able to set up the field trip for us. They have most recently been focused on the 5 senses and Jeanne, Abi’s mom, tied the trip in with that.
The teenage boys working there when we went in took us in back so the girls could see how they make the ice cream and let the girls feel how cold it was in the 2 huge freezers they store it all in.
And what good would a visit to an ice cream shop be if you didn’t get to taste some?! Not surprisingly, almost every girl wanted "pink" ice cream. Annie did pick chocolate and I wish Ella would have because I was sharing with her and strawberry isn’t my favorite flavor.
Also not surprising was that half of the girls chose sprinkles for their mix-in of choice. Ella almost went for the Reece’s PeanutButter cups – which would have made for an interesting combination with the strawberry ice cream. What was surprising was that Ella didn’t devour her whole cup – there was actually some left for me to eat at the end.
Addie was happy as always and munched on her little Gerber puffs while everyone ate their tasty treats. Luckily she doesn’t know what she was missing out on yet!
This Cold Stone is in the fairly new La Centera shopping center by us and there is a little water fountain/play place in the middle where we let the girls run around for a little while before heading home (burn up that sugar energy). I start teaching my unit, The Joy of the Earth, next week and I’ll let you know how it goes. Jeanne has done a really good job so I’ve got a lot to live up to!

Kinda funny in the first picture... Ella looks shorter than everyone else. Or are those girls older than her? Ella certainly doesn't have short genes...

She does look shorter - I noticed that too. In that pic they are actually in order by age... but Ella, Abi, and Lauren all turned 3 this summer. Then Annie is almost exactly 1 year older than Ella and Emma is almost 5. Ella isn't tall at all for her age but she's not short either and I think it is partly the way they are standing - she's kind of slumped.
