Presenting...

Some of you know that when Mike and I met he was playing in a band, Leisure, with all his buddies. He definitely looked cute up there playing his guitar and singing :-). Life is so busy now that he hasn't had a lot of time for songwriting, but he just finished this song, "Memory is a Moon" and my completely unbiased opinion is that it is beautiful AND wonderful! So, presenting the debut of my talented, sexy husband's latest (I must admit it makes my heart melt just a little when I listen to it):

I added it to my playlist too, for your listening pleasure!

What's Addie Doing? and Ella Meets Her Teacher

A typical day in our house includes Ella checking out what Addie is doing and then following her lead. If Addie has one book and one stuffed animal, then you are sure to find Ella with one book and one animal as well.
Addie moves on to the bikes, then Ella moves on to the bikes. Crazy kids :-)

Thursday night Ella was able to meet her new preschool teacher, Miss Nikki. She seems like a really sweet lady and Ella loved her classroom! She wanted to stay and play all night :-). There are only 8 kids in the class, which I am excited about and Ella's joy school/church friend Lauren will be there with her which will be nice. We can't wait to get started on Tuesday! I can't believe she is getting so big :-)!

We are having a lot of fun in San Antonio. I'll have lots of pictures to post soon. (and for those of you wondering, my phone is up and running again - wooo hooo!)

How Addie Entertains herself

Greetings from San Antonio :-). In the 2 1/2 short days we are here I plan to:
- Finish Pride and Prejudice (I have read 60 pages thus far)
- write in Ella's journal
- write in Addie's journal
- read the 3 magazines I brought
- run everyday
Totally accomplishable, right?! Probably not. I don't know what I was thinking when I brought everything with me, but if Gustav keeps turning towards Houston, maybe we'll be stuck here for a little while.
I did email myself my last set of pictures so I could get caught up on my posting while here, so here is the first post from afar:
Talking to her friends:

Looking cute, but not holding still long enough for me to truly capture the cuteness:

Getting everything situated for her latest discovery:

Pushing the chairs to locations that help her get what she wants:

Happy 19 months old yesterday Addie girl! We love your crazy, independent and silly ways!!!

The Nie Recovery

Some of you who are obsessive bloggers and blog-readers like myself may have also come across the story of Stephanie and Christian Nielson who were involved in a plane crash on August 16th (read the story here). I don't remember where I first came across the news, but I have since spent hours (yes actual hours of my days) reading about this cute family and their extended family. I have read the old posts on Stephanie's blog, The NieNie Dialogues, and now check her sister's blog, C Jane Enjoy It, daily (and have read all her old posts as well).
The accident itself was obviously a tragedy, but I have been so moved reading about how this family has come together to support one another and how many other bloggers are doing what they can to help as well. Although I may not be in a position to donate to their recovery, spreading the word so they receive extra prayers is something I can do! Click the picture below for the website set up in their behalf:

Love our Library

I know, I know everyone already knows we LOVE our library. You may not know that I actually love it so much that while looking for a preschool program for Ella this year one of my priorities was trying to ensure she would be able to attend her library time on Wednesdays still. With school starting next week on Tuesdays and Thursdays it is perfect (not to mention Addie and I get our own little date to her storytime on Tuesdays now)! In comparison to the other library near us (which we still call Andrew's library...we miss you!) this one is little and old, but it is still our favorite! Who needs computer games and toy areas at a library anyway? We have books, storytime and lots of librarians we love (not to mention they love us too!).

During the toddler storytime we all sit around a parachute and sing, etc. Addie's favorite part is when we sing Old McDonald and Miss Charity throws out these big puppet animals into the middle of the parachute as we sing about them. At the end of the parachute fun the kids play with lots of balls and are able to get the puppets too. She could care less about the balls, she always runs right for the animals and picks one to cuddle. Today Ella's storytime theme was Farms so the puppets were out...2 days in a row...Addie was in heaven :-)!

Perfectly Content

Miss Adeline is our little go-it-alone girl. She is perfectly content to be on her own as long as she is doing what SHE wants to. This evening while I was making dinner and Ella was watching her long-awaited show of the afternoon, Addie asked to go outside. I could see her through our kitchen window wearing my flip flops and just hugging this tree looking around.

Later she found this rock, which she brought inside to proudly show me before heading back out for more adventures. Ella, although independent in the sense she wants to be able to do things by herself, is much happier when she has someone right there with her. In fact, she follows Addie around waiting for Addie to think of something fun to do. I'll admit it drives me a little bit crazy sometimes because I just don't understand her :-).

I'm already worried about what both of their personalities hold for us in the future when they are teenagers. Ella because she seems to be more of a "follower" so it is up to Mike and I to be sure she is confident and sure enough of her values to not follow others in the wrong direction. Addie because she is so strong-willed and independent that she reminds me of myself...SCARY :-)! Of course, both personalities have their positive points as well, but it can definitely feel overwhelming to think of the great responsibility that is upon our shoulders as parents as we try to guide them and teach them in a way that will help them become the best they can be.

A couple funny things Ella said today:
* Ella was thrilled to play with her friend Lauren today! Later on she told me they were eating lipstick in Lauren's room. When I told her that probably wasn't a good idea because it could make her sick (I told her I had actually eaten chapstick when I was little and it made me sick...true story!). She couldn't have cared less and told me, "But it was SO yummy!"
* We are reading a mini-chapter book at bedtime right now about a princess and her horse. The story had mentioned the queen a couple times and then tonight referred to her as the mom instead. Ella asked me who the mom was and I explained that she was the queen - that when your mom is a queen, then you are a princess. She looked a little confused and told me, "But you're not a queen and I'm still a princess...Princess Ella, like Cinderella."
I LOVE that she really thinks she is a princess...I want to be little again and believe too :-)!

Their Point of View

One of my daily struggles, as I have mentioned before, is to have more patience with the girls. I know I sometimes expect too much of them, especially Ella, and I try and see things from their point of view (usually after the fact) to help me be more patient the next time a similar situation may arise. This afternoon I came across a little article, "Memo to Mommy" in my Parents magazine and I LOVED it! I really need a little reminder like this sometimes!
Memo to Mommy
by Mary Mohler
You have lots of lessons to teach your little one, but he has a few words of wisdom for you too.

Stop freaking out about the mess! There's always time to clean - but how often do we get to make mud pies?
Love me, even when I'm naughty. I'll only be this age once.
Be patient. I do everything for a reason, but I don't know enough words yet to give you an explanation.
Don't expect too much of me. I want to do what you ask and make you happy, but I'm still little.
Don't try to reason with me when I'm having a tantrum. Trust me - I can't hear you over my own screaming.
Keep your promises. It's all about trust. When I'm a teenager, you'll understand why it's so important.
Don't keep asking me if I've been good. I'm not even sure what that means, but if I was bad I'd never admit it!
Set limits. I can't actually eat a whole box of cookies - I just want to see if I'd get away with it.
Don't let me think that you're perfect. I feel a lot better knowing I'm not the only one who makes mistakes sometimes.
Let me do it. I know you can do it faster and better, but sometimes experience is the best teacher.

Our Haunted House

Recently a ghost has been spotted quite frequently in our house and we finally caught the little thing on video...

And our Sunday pictures:
We tried to get a couple inside before going out in the heat. This was another dress with hat combo for Addie. I always wonder if any child ever really wears the hat. I especially wonder in this instance why there were NO bloomers...why did the manufacturer feel the hat was more important than bloomers?! We of course had to get a picture of it though :-).

Sweet (but not happy) Adeline:

A Short Tag...3 Things

I was tagged by Mckell and since it has been a LONG time since I filled one out (and I have NO new pictures), here it goes:

3 Current Goals: 1) Write in Ella's journal 2) finish reading Pride and Prejudice 3) Be PATIENT with the girlies (I think this will be a lifelong goal)

3 Current Obsessions: 1) Watching the Olympics (I'm secretly glad they end tonight so my normal life can resume) 2) Power Washing 3) Blurbing (and of course Blogging too)

3 Fears: 1) Giving talks in church 2) Dying before my children grow up 3) Trying something new and failing at it (as I get older I have less patience for learning - I just want to be able to do things!)

3 Random Facts: 1) I have a hard time relaxing...there is always something I know I could or should be doing instead 2) I like the Lifetime show Army Wives and cry everytime I'm watching it...by myself 3) I would love to be a back-up dancer on a concert tour (if only I could dance)

I now tag my fam: Mom, Kayley, Hope, Chrissy, and Brittany (Mack don't feel left out, I just knew you wouldn't do it :-)

Bye to Kayley and Scott (and more)

Last night Kayley and Scott stopped by one last time before heading back to Utah for the year. I got so used to Kayley being around all summer, as did the girls, so it was sad to say goodbye. Luckily for us, with both their families in Katy, they will hopefully be moving back this way soon. Stay warm guys :-)!We found this little chef hat in the $1 spot at Target (gotta love it) and Ella was excited to help cook again. Actually, she was mostly excited to have a hat like Pig on our favorite show Word World, but she did ask to help cook as well for the first time in weeks. (this is a GREAT show by the way, so check it out if you haven't seen it before!)
From Today:

I know most of you probably don't care to see more power-washing pictures, but it is so amazing to me! I love to see the before and after!

And lastly, I received my second completed book from Blurb today. I opted for the square book this time around since there weren't TONS of pictures or info to include. I also went with the softcover because it was a lot cheaper. I was a little surprised at how small the book was (view it in Addie's little hands below), although had I paid attention to the measurements given on the site I would have been fully aware. I am still completely satisfied with the quality of the pictures of the pages (these turned out MUCH better than my 2007 book because they were taken with our newer camera) and the book itself. This size would be perfect for projects like making the girls a little book of our Disneyland trip. I'm still a blurb fan, but if I ordered another copy of this book I would definitely do the hardback (note to all you roomies out there who may want to get your own copy).

Taking Care of Business

I just LOVE this picture so I had to post it first. They definitely are taking these phone calls seriously! Here are the other pictures from our our day thus far:
Well, this one is actually from yesterday when we were at my parents' house for Ella to pick the big winner of the Pineapple Hill contest. Addie and Ella both love to follow the cats around and "softly" pet them.
Ella picked out not only her own outfit today, but Addie's too. Pink is definitely her color of choice (she had on a pink shirt herself originally, but decided it was "too hot" and she changed into the yellow one instead - "because it matches my yellow flower"...kind of).
Woops...this plan was not well thought out. Addie didn't know what to do to get herself out of this situation. She just froze there and started "asking" for help. I, of course, took a picture before rescuing her :-).
Ella LOVES babies and little Ian was quite cooperative :-). This is also Ella's new smiling pose...it's this or looking dazed at the camera (see first pictures in front of fence), so the BIG smile usually wins out.
Addie and Brooklynn, Ian's big sis, who is a great hugger. I was just amazed that Addie accepted the hugs, especially since I made them recreate the moment a couple times so I could take a picture.
