Out of Ideas

for cute titles of pool pictures. We headed to the pool on Thursday afternoon for some family swim time. There is nothing like getting in the cool water to refresh you on these humid days. Ella is swimming a little bit on her own and starts her real swimming lessons on Monday. I gave up on trying to get something set up with a private teacher, which I had been trying to do most of the summer, and signed her up for some group lessons. So, although the summer is coming to a close, hopefully she'll be all set for next summer!

All Done

We got everything finished on our rental on Wednesday and let me tell you,
it was nice to wake up Thursday morning knowing we didn't have to go over there again!
Monday the Freeman Work Crew, consisting of Steve, Diane and Chrissy, came to help us get a HUGE head start on everything. By the end of that first day the entire house had been repainted (by Chrissy and Diane), the jungle of the back yard had been taken down, the sod had been laid, a light fixture had been exchanged, errand after errand had been run and a good start on the cleaning had begun. Chloe and Hope watched the girls at our house while my Grandma and Grandfather took care of Preston the whole day so we had uninterrupted work time.
Tuesday my mom watched the kids for me for a little while so I could get some more cleaning in and Mike tackled more of the outside and that night Hope came to babysit so we could both work more on the inside.
Wednesday I felt like it was actually clean enough to let Preston take a nap in his pack n play in one of the rooms while the girls watched movies on the computer in another room. Mike and I were able to get the last of the work done and just as the first prospective renters pulled in, I was pulling out with the kiddos .
The renters who left had been in the house nearly 4 years, so some wear and tear was expected, but what I was not prepared for was how filthy it was! How people can live like that is beyond me, but it did make me feel much better about the current state of our own home :-).
We owe a HUGE thanks to everyone for all their hard work in helping us! Hopefully we won't have to worry about this again for another few years!
(I don't really have great before and after pictures. The "before" pictures are pictures I was taking to document the condition things were left in, more than to show what the house overall looked like. Just trust me that it looks SO much cuter with the new paint color though. And you can thank me later for sparing you the pictures of the really dirty parts of the house, especially the fridge...you would throw up)

Sunday Prep

(we have been working on sprucing up our rental before getting new people in it this week ALL day EVERY day, but today should be the last day...I'm ready for normal life to resume...and so are the kids!)

The girls and I decided to have curly hair on Sunday...which meant curlers on Saturday night.
(first though, these pictures are of Mike talking for Addie's cats and trying to have them tell her to be nice and help clean up. she didn't know what to think of it and eventually just pretended she was asleep :-)

since Ella wasn't really smiling anyway I told the girls to be serious...notice how nice Addie's serious face is

Christmas in July

Yesterday in the early evening Ella and I headed out to the grocery store, just as it started pouring rain. I figured by the time we got to the store it would be about done, but as we were almost out of our neighborhood it became clear this wasn't the typical Houston sudden downpour. It was SUPER windy so I decided we better head back home and wait it out. Watching from the windows of the house, we were all in awe of the hurricane-like weather already and then it started to hail. The first round they were little and it looked like snow. Then it stopped for a little while and HUGE hail starting coming down fast. It was like someone was just throwing handfuls of them down on us. Mike and Ella had a great time going to grab them up while Addie and I watched and admired their collecting from the doorway (poor Preston was napping and missed all the excitement).
This was one of the first ones, so not too big yet.

Mike emailed in a couple photos to our local news stations that night and we made it onto the channel 13 news...
the lead picture, no less :-)! I was sure no one would see it, or if they did then not notice that it was our picture, but I know at least two did, which is pretty fun. And yes, Amy, I'd be happy to give you an autograph :-).
