All We Need are Rocks

The girls have really been wanting to go swimming but I wasn't feeling up to heading to one of the neighborhood pools with all 3 kiddos by myself, especially on a Saturday. Addie had also been telling me she really wanted to go to Nana's because Bill (the cat) would be so excited if she came. So, we headed over and spent Saturday enjoying Nana and Grandad's backyard (the pool AND the rocks) and their company. Thanks guys :-)!
(and thanks to Grandad for swimming with the girls for so long, they love it!)

Getting Our Game On

When it comes to Ella's hair, her very favorite way to wear it currently is with a headband. Sometimes though she'll request a specific style (like the two braids coming together for her birthday party) and other times I have to convince her that she'll look cute wearing it the way I want her to.
Last week I had done her hair one day (nothing too snazzy but more than just a ponytail) and when she got home as I tried to pull details of the day out of her (she almost always tells me she can't remember when I ask her anything, I didn't think that was supposed to happen until they were older :-), I asked if anyone said anything about her hair. We were being silly so when she said no I said, "WHAT?!?!" and we laughed about it and decided we were going to get a compliment the next day. Well, still nothing the next day (although the librarians did compliment her when we went there that afternoon, so that kind of counted). So Friday we went all out. We looked on some hair blogs until Ella found one she liked and we even missed the bus because we were finishing it up (we missed it Thursday too...not a great start to the year :-). But we did it! Mission Compliments was a success!

(too bad Preston is always drinking his morning bottle at this time)

Fun with Friends Friday

I have been the worst friend about meeting new babies this summer! I finally met Allie's little Weston on Friday when we all got together for lunch and Mckell made her new tortilla soup recipe (I made it a couple days before for our dinner...it's super yummy). Oh, and Weston is 4 1/2 months old...see told you, bad friend! In my defense, they were out of town for 2 of the months :-). Preston was actually pretty interested in Weston and when he found one of Livy's pacifiers (which are the same MAM ones he used) he just tried to put it in Weston's mouth...he didn't put it in his! I was pretty surprised that he seemed to have already forgotten completely about them. So much for love :-).
Near the end of our visiting we attempted to get the kids together for a picture. Jace has a history of being scared of me taking his picture and getting Preston to stay anywhere for more than a few seconds is always a challenge. Luckily Addie and Livy are all for hamming it up and Weston doesn't have much choice in the matter when it comes to where he is or what he can do. (oh, and Addie did come to the house with shorts on, promise)

Me and Addie

With Ella in school and Preston taking a long afternoon nap, Addie and I get some time just the two of us. Part of this time is spent watching Tom and Jerry, which she waits all day for (because it has a cat in it!), and then I've been trying to spend some time just focusing on her too. Yesterday when I asked her what she wanted to do she asked me to come have a tea party with her (and her cats) and was thrilled when I actually said yes to putting water in the tea pot this time.
(and then of course later in the day she filled them up again, this time without asking me and water was spilled all over the room, what can you do)
Addie also told me we needed cookies for the tea party so I went and got some animal crackers for her that she proceeded to dip in the water before eating. Silly girl :-).
earlier in the morning she helped me vacuum
