School Pictures, etc.

Both Ella and Addie had their school pictures this week. It is so weird how they do the school pictures at the elementary school though. She had just her individual picture this time (I think it is the one that will go in the yearbook) and then they do another picture day later for the class picture. Doesn't it seem like it would be easier to just get it all done in one shot? Anyway, we already got the proofs back from Addie's pictures, so I scanned those in too. I'm so glad I don't rely on these for our pictures of the kids, what a bummer that would be (although Ella did have that cool rainbow lighted background last year :-).

This week was also Donuts with Dad at Ella's school, which became "Donuts with Nana" for us. Mike unfortunately misses out on these events since he is teaching at his own school and this year Grandad was on a business trip and Greatfrog was working at the temple, so it was Nana to the rescue. (can you believe next week is Addie's Donuts with Dad at preschool and it is on the same day of the week, leaving us in the same predicament?!) Ella had lots of fun with Nana though. Here they are before leaving our house at 7:20am -Yikes that was early! (and Ella really was excited, promise!)

On Thursday after getting the girls off to school my mom, Preston and I headed down town to visit with Kayley. Mom treated us to a yummy lunch and we had fun talking (and keeping track of Preston). Preston kindly tested out the apple and banana in Kayley's fruit bowl. They both had teeny little bite marks on them...yep, he bit right through the banana peel and all. Apparently he quickly realized why I usually peel those for him first because there was a little blog of chewed mush on the counter next to the banana.

I have been such a slacker about taking pictures, but I wanted to record that last week the girls both went on dates with Mike. Ella finally got to go on her roller skating date and Addie had earned enough magnets and chose to go to Cici's, which meant a date with Dad as well (since Cici's is more his kind of place than mine :-). They sure love having that special time with their dad! I need to be sure to get pictures before they head out next time.

New Art

On Wednesday Addie came home from preschool and said to me, "Did you know we can write on these bags?!" So, I gave her some sharpies, after strict instructions to be very careful with them, and told her she could color her bag. During my sharpie tutorial I accidentally drew a line on the back of her bag and clever girl that she is, she turned it into a flower (it is the farthest right). Umm, isn't this the cutest bag ever?! I'm pretty sure if I had tried to do it I wouldn't have been half as successful and she is only FOUR! Our little artist :-). And she's sweet too...she even let Ella draw one flower on the back when she got home from school (Ella's is 2nd from the right on the back). Today she proudly used the bag for preschool and I think it's the cutest one there!
(if you look closely on the back you can see the butterflies drinking nectar from the flowers)

I have loved all the deal site savings on canvases and recently had 2 of my favorite pics from the last couple years of family photo shoots turned into 16x24 canvases (for our future colorful and cute family room that I continue to plan out).
The one company offered a super deal to add a floating frame and I LOVE it. That one just came this week and I love to go look at it :-)! It will be even more fun when I get to actually transform the family room and hang it on the wall!

And since we decorated for Halloween 2 weeks ago (we haven't had a holiday in FOREVER, so we are excited!), I had to show off the cute little canvas my mom made for me last year. I love it now and I'm sure I'll love it even more as the kids get bigger.

I am currently working on my 2010 Blurb book (finally! I'm into March now), which explains the lack of pictures and posts.

New Game

Ella and Addie made up a game this weekend where one would chase the other and once they were tagged they had to wave their arms around, fall to the ground and say "Preston, don't sit on me." Preston would then run over and either sit on them or walk on them (depending on his mood). They would all laugh and then the girls were then free to get up and chase the other one again.

We are looking forward to even better (ie cooler) weather this weekend...hooray!!!

Silly Preston

Preston had been in his crib for his nap about 15 minutes and I could still hear him talking and playing so I just went in to make sure he hadn't pooped (the usual culprit for such behavior). When I walked in he looked at me and said cheerily, "I woke up!" Nice try Preston, nice try :-).

Stupid!

Tonight I took the girls to ChickFilA for Ella's school spirit night. Usually we don't go to these but one of Ella's favorite people from school, Miss Nancy, was participating in the lemon squeezing contest so we braved the crowd. I took a few pictures of Ella and Miss Nancy together while we were there and some of the actual contest. Oh, and I just remembered I had a super cute one of the ChickFila cow when he squished into our booth next to the girls. Anyway, I was just sitting on the bed and pulled out the camera to look through the pictures and out of habit I immediately went to menu and format memory card. Yep, I just completely erased the whole night before I uploaded them to the computer. I'm feel like the biggest idiot! So sad. At least there was only a handful of pics on there this time :-(.

Little Sick Guy

9-24-11-19
Preston woke up Saturday morning very sleepy, grumpy, warm and with the cutest little raspy voice you've ever heard. That day he actually wanted to take a nap and since most days he is worried about when nap time is from the moment he wakes up, I knew he really didn't feel well. We enjoyed some extra snuggles from our non-cuddle boy and although he is still not 100%, he's slowly getting better. After spending 2 days stuck in the house, this morning he was crying (literally sobbing) that he wanted to go somewhere in the car. So, we headed out to the grocery store and he actually sat in the car cart the whole trip! So although being sick has it's perks, we'll be glad when he is back to his crazy self again (and not quite so grumpy anymore).

What We've Been Missing!

After our Spring Break trip to the Children's Museum in Austin we had been meaning to check out the one in Houston because I knew it was WAY bigger (and most likely therefore, better). We never got around to it during our busy summer and then a couple months ago guess what popped up on Groupon? The Houston Children's Museum! Man, do I love all these deal sites!
We were planning to go Monday so only Ella would have to miss school and Sunday evening I had the kids all excited about it as I tucked them in. Later that night I went to the museum's website to see what time they opened and found out they are closed on Monday! So, that was a big bummer for Ella Monday morning...no museum and off to school instead. So, we looked at our week's schedule and ended up heading out on Wednesday.
We spent a little over 4 hours at the museum and just barely made it through all the different areas. It was AMAZING and HUGE and FUN! In a couple years when Preston is a little older it will be even more fun because he'll be interested in the same things that the girls were wanting to do more of this time and we can take more time on all the little experiments. The little city was our overall favorite of the day. Each child has a little debit card and then they can go work at different jobs to earn money and deposit it in their account at little ATMs. They can also shop at the grocery store, etc. Preston's very favorite was being able to climb in the little ambulance and police car at the emergency worker spot (and the fact that there were hundreds of buttons that he could push everywhere we went), Addie most liked the veterinary office and Ella's fave was the little news station (that was my favorite too, it was awesome!). I took lots and lots and lots of pictures, because everywhere we looked there was another cool thing to do!
when I asked Preston to stand with his arms up like the girls he said no and walked off

There was also an artist's studio, but the craft was a little involved (although Addie really wanted to do it) and at that point Preston would NOT stay with us because he really wanted to be by the police car. So, we grabbed our lunch and headed outside to the picnic tables to eat and let Preston be free. There was a group of moms and kids at another table eating lunches they packed as well and about half way through our lunch a worker came and told us both that outside food was not allowed at the museum. So, we ate a little faster to finish up. That was the only thing we didn't love about our day. We then explored the outside areas a little bit (a little nature house, water area and playground) before heading back inside again.

While the girls were inventing, Preston and I built different cars out of legos and tested them on the race track. I loved that you could barely see his hands over the top of the track. After that I would go up and hold him up so that he actually see the car as it went down :-).

We were heading back upstairs to the main level and the windows in the staircase had all these cool paper flowers. We thought they were so pretty with the light coming through! We went to the lasts areas we hadn't been to yet (a little Mexican town and a construction area) and then we quickly stopped back by some of our favorite areas again.
