The Road Home

We didn't make it very far south due to our stops the day before, so Saturday, the 28th, was really the start of our drive home. We made one stop near Moab to check out the rocks a little but other than that we drove and drove and drove. It was actually a great time in the RV that day though. I felt like because we knew we were going to be there the whole day we just got settled in and enjoyed our time together. The kids didn't get as crazy as they often do and had fun with some of the new activities I pulled out along the way (although Ella was rather disappointed when she saw that the Junie B Jones book I handed her at one point was in Spanish :).
The RV had run perfectly up until this point and we were planning to drive all night so that we would arrive home in the late afternoon on Sunday. It seemed to be having a little trouble as we were going up down hills through New Mexico. Although it didn't last long, we decided I would not try driving it as a result, so Mike drove the entire time. He was a champ! And he fell asleep instantly Sunday evening we finally made it home.
It was so fun to pull into our neighborhood and go in the house! Beauty's little meow was all horse from meowing for people while we were gone even though she was well cared for by Emily and my mom. My mom told us that when she would try to leave after coming over to check on Beauty that she would attack my mom's feet when she tried to leave. Poor Beauty. She has not left Ella's side since we have been back! Addie was excited to be reunited with Blubby and we went over to my parent's the next day to pick him up. Their cat Sally was sad to see him go though :-). I didn't have a loving animal waiting for my arrival home, but I was greeted by a mountain of mail which was nearly as exciting.
The trip was a definite success and overall went so much better than I thought it would. The RV made all the driving (5,009 miles!!!) seem like nothing and it was so nice to be able to stop and visit friends and fun places all along the way.
We have been home a week now and are just barely caught up on laundry and, now blog posts too. By the end of the week we were ready to escape the heat and hit the pool with friends again and that was tons of fun. I may even start cooking again this week :-)! It's back to the real world with photo shoots and preparations for Ella's birthday party and baptism. Not to mention school starting back up in only a few more weeks! Whew!

I hadn't let Preston play Battle Ship yet so when he asked and I said yes he was so excited. He seriously played with it for at least 2 hours! Arranging pegs and starting over again. Every once and awhile he would remind me I wasn't playing and I would call out a coordinate. He would tell me I missed and then go back to his pattern making :-).

All along the trip Ella passed up things she kind of wanted to save her money for the BYU bookstore. She bought this blingy bracelet, a blue jeweled ID holder for school and a stuffed elephant.
