Utah - Nine Mile Canyon

On our way out of Utah we made a stop to explore Nine Mile Canyon with the kids (after one more meal at Cafe Rio!). We also stopped to look at a dinosaur footprint and some other pictographs that were kind of in the area. Mike and I spent many weekends exploring and looking at these petroglyphs and other remnants of Indian life when we were at BYU. Mike found a cool book that directed us to many of the locations but this time around we didn't have the book and had to remember our way...8 years later. It was tricky at times, but Mike did it and the kids survived a whole day driving around in the little car. I definitely gained a renewed appreciation for the RV after a day with 3 kids smooshed in the back of the Hyundai.
It is pretty amazing to be able to go up in the mountains and find the granaries and petroglyphs left by Indians hundreds of years ago though!  There is nothing blocking them off or even marking where they are. You just go and find them right where they originally were.

We knew we were in the right area for the dinosaur footprint but we were having trouble finding it. Ella was the one who finally spotted it!

Here is Ella 8 years ago, at 9 months old, in the same spots :-)!

Mike went off to find an old grave he had once happened upon when exploring. He was able to find it and took the next few pictures. I waited in the car with the three kids, which was tons of fun :-)!

And then it was off to Nine Mile. I had forgotten how far apart the two were, but once we made it there we had fun walking around and looking at all the artwork.

That's so cool. You'd think that in seven years of living in Utah I would have heard of these places and gone. But I never did. I love the pictures of Ella sitting in the same places as when she was a baby. She was the most beautiful little baby. And she's a beautiful girl now too! Just like her sister and handsome little brother!
