Day at the Museum, Part One

I had purchased a deal for the Houston Museum of Natural Science that was due to expire soon. I refused to go over spring break and fight the crowds, so I had the girls skip school on the 20th and we headed downtown. We got stuck in terrible traffic on the way there and were so happy when we finally made it! Despite our late start, we still had the entire butterfly center to ourselves again (just how we like it :-)!). With the deal this time around we got to explore more of the museum, but we started with the butterflies and then went outside for a lunch break before heading back inside.

St. Patty's Day Weekend

Each year St. Patrick's Day sneaks up on me and I think to myself, "Next year we are going to do a whole Irish dinner" and then all of the sudden it is here again. This year was even less festive than previous ones, but what can you do :-)?! I did let the kids pinch me all morning long (softly) since I wasn't wearing green. We headed out first thing in the morning to take a picture for my 2014 calendar (hence Ella's puffy eyes) and promised donuts if we got it done quickly. They did pretty well! I am just too lazy to do any head swapping, so this is what we have. The rest of the weekend was spent hanging out, working on the home improvements and trying to enjoy those last few hours of spring break.

Ella's Super Star Moment

Over spring break Ella had the opportunity to sing the national anthem at a Houston Rocket's game with the Katy Children's Choir. The kids sounded great and it was pretty cool to have them down there on the court right by all the big time basketball players. I was already impressed by what the directors are able to accomplish with these kids in one practice a week, but after going to photograph a practice a few weeks ago I am seriously amazed! The kids are all crazy at practice...I mean, they have just finished nearly 8 hours of school before arriving. So, when you hear those harmonies from mostly elementary aged kids who haven't been in a choir before, it is quite a feat! But back to the game...we only made it until half time with our crazies, but Grammy, Greatfrog, Nana, Grandad and Hope were all able to come as well (as well as Oliver who my parents were watching that weekend). It was a fun night and definitely one that Ella will remember!
