After our little lunch break, we headed back inside to check out new areas of the museum. We checked out the Energy Hall (the kids really liked this area, especially the simulated ride down to the bottom of an oil well) , Gem and Minerals, African and Texan wildlife, Malacology, and Paleontology. The passes I bought also gave us access to two special exhibits, the Gems of the Medici and Maya 2012. I was SO surprised at how interested the girls were in all the Mayan artifacts. Mike LOVES that kind of stuff so I was excited to tell him about it too :-). We spent quite a bit of time there (much to Preston's dismay) and they loved looking at all the masks, tools and especially the "REAL!!!" gold items. We weren't allowed to take pictures in that exhibit unfortunately. I was able to take a few in the other exhibit although they didn't love that one as much. It was a really fun day and it made me excited to know that they are getting old enough to really enjoy museums. I really want to do a road trip to the northeast and D.C. in a couple years once Preston will appreciate it all more and do a big museum tour.
