Taylor Swift Red Tour...Our VIP Experience

Waaay back in the fall Taylor Swift tickets went on sale and Mike was able to score some awesome tickets. After some discussion we decided to bring Ella and her friend Alli, who has not only been Ella's very best friend at school all year but also is obsessed with Taylor Swift. After first checking with her mom to make sure she could go, we told Ella and she was SOOO excited to tell Alli. Ella and I thought it would be fun to come up with a cool way to invite her, but in the end we were too excited and one day when I was picking Ella up from school, she just told her :-). And then the months of waiting began.
Finally May arrived and we started to get excited! Along with our seats we had VIP Experience tickets and a couple weeks before the show we received boxes of Taylor Swift swag in the mail. Bags, afghans, tour books, glowing lights, bracelets, phone cases, and more...and then at the concert we each received an autographed CD. There was only a small window in which they were letting in the VIP passes so we were concerned about getting downtown right from school. Luckily, Kassandra was home from college and she was able to follow us to the school and then take Addie and Preston home to watch them the rest of the night. Ella and Alli came running out of the school doors, hopped in the car and we were off. We hadn't told the girls about all the Taylor Swift goodies and had them waiting in the car. It was SO fun to be able to watch them do everything the whole night long and it started right then!
(and a huge thanks to my friend Katie for letting me borrow her camera. I couldn't bring in my nice one and her point and shoot did an amazing job for us!!!)
(and all my video clips are pretty short...and there is video of Taylor touching Ella at the end!)

We were allowed in the venue before the doors opened to everyone else and bought all our merchandise (the lines were insane later when we went to our seats for the first time) and were guided up to a special banquet room. There was a photo booth, a mexican food buffet, a candy bar and a raffle for Taylor Swift goodies (we didn't win but Alli and Mike both got to pick tickets out of the bowl). It was so fun and we felt super cool :-)! We had access to the room until the first act started at 7pm, so we went down to check out our seats after awhile and then went back to the room to hang out until show time.

Our seats were great and we sat in them for the two openers. I had really been looking forward to Ed Sheeran and he is crazy talented! It was just him doing everything on stage and I kind of wish they would have cut the first opener and just let Ed play longer (this is my favorite song from his CD).

The girls got up and stood right by the stage while waiting for Taylor Swift and then Mike and I joined them and had the most amazing concert experience. Her stage is set up with the main stage, walkways around two pit areas and then a front part of the walkway and we were right there (see picture). When she first came out she walked right down to where we were and I was seriously in awe. I have been right at the front of the stage before, but never in a HUGE arena for such a mega star. She was just RIGHT there. It was insane! I couldn't even get a great picture of her because she was so close.
I thought our spot was perfect because we could still see the elaborate stage sets and then have the bonus of her coming right near us all the time. The people in the pit had to look at the back of her a lot even though they were closer to the main stage. I was seriously impressed with the whole show and she played for TWO hours! The stages, the costume changes, the variety of songs, how well she was able to connect with such a huge audience. It was so fun! Although half the fun was seeing Ella be so excited, Mike and I both decided we would have loved it just as much as a date night.

Cutest thing Ella has said to me since the concert? That when Taylor was saying this that it almost made her cry. It has been a kind of rough year for her with a couple mean girls in her class and I started recording this because I knew she would like it, but when she told me that later that night when I was tucking her in bed, I was especially glad I caught it!

The only thing I was disappointed with was that she left the front stage and was carried over to a stage and the other end of the stadium for a few songs and that was where Ed Sheeran came out to play with her. Although I'm glad the fans down there got to be closer, I wish we had been able to see the two of them together better. The girls were pretty amazed with how she made her way back to the main stage :-).

And then of course, the highlight of Ella's little life...Taylor grabbed her hand at the very end of the show. Mike managed to find someone else's video on youtube of the actual moment and although it is hard to make out, it happens at 5:33 and Mike has a baseball hat on if that helps you to see him lifting her up. Ella has on the black TSwift shirt. Taylor bows, starts walking and then stops and grabs Ella's hand before walking to the other side of the stage. Pretty dang amazing! It was especially crazy to see her on the Billboard Music awards a couple nights later and think how close we had just been to her.

I thought the girls would pass out on the drive home but they were too excited even though it was nearly 11 by the time we started driving back. It is such a fun memory and I don't know if any other concert will be able to compete!
