Our Adventurous Beginning

Friday, the 5th, we spent the day scrambling to run last minute errands, pick out outfits for the trip and load the RV. I gave the kids the first of their trip surprises (cute little art supply boxes I got for a steal from Land of Nod). Saturday morning we woke up and got right on the road. Our first stop was Dallas to meet up with Mike's family, who we were caravanning with the rest of the first leg, and of course lunch at In N' Out. I had recently learned you could get your fries animal style too and was so excited to try them! After some research online I discovered all the other cool things you can do (we knew you could do your burger animal style and protein style but that was about it) so I got my fries well done. They were more crispy and absolutely heavenly!

Not long into the drive Preston threw up. Luckily, it was all right into his blanket, but I was worried it was a virus that was going to make the rounds since Addie had complained of not feeling well earlier that morning. Turns out it was just car sickness and after a couple hours he was good as new.

After lunch we hopped into the RV with Meema joining us and hit the road for what we expected would be Oklahoma City that evening. Unfortunately the RV had other plans though. There had been some issues with it shifting gears before we left and Mike had tried for months to get it fixed. The different places we took it to either couldn't figure it out or the RV would work fine when they drove it so they didn't know what to even look for. We had decided to just go for it which at this moment seemed like a terrible idea. Mike's family was so patient and hung out with us, helped us find a place to take it and delayed their own arrival to OK by hours...even with 2 year old Dustin in tow. It was so nice of them! After we found a place to look at the RV (on a Saturday afternoon mind you), we headed out to have some fun while they went to work. We stopped into Main Event for some game playing and the kids (and adults) all had a blast playing and picking out prizes.

In the end we decided to go ahead with our first leg of the trip (touring Nauvoo with Mike's family) in our teeny little Hyundai, hoping that by the end of the week it would be ready to continue on the rest of our road trip. We were fully prepared to rent a bigger car if needed (we were SCARED of having the kids so squished together for so much driving :-) but they were amazing! We filled up on a yummy dinner in Dallas and then made it to Oklahoma City late that night. Day one crisis averted and many more days of road tripping to come!
