Disney: MAGIC KINGDOM

Monday, January 27th, was our day to go to the Magic Kingdom. When we started planning our trip we tried our best to pick a weekend that we had nothing major going on and also one that we thought had the best odds for an empty park (no 3 day weekend, etc.). I think we did pretty well! There were still a lot of people, it is Disney after all, but it was pretty dang empty, especially the first few hours we were there. It happened to work out perfectly that we were there in time for Addie's birthday on a non-friend party year and that we also got to meet baby Mark.
So, Monday we were up and at 'em early. We got stuffed on the amazing hotel breakfast right when it opened at 6:30am (we were at an Embassy Suites and I was so happy that they still make omelets to order like I remember from trips when I was growing up) and then it was off to the park. It was a little wet that morning but we had purchased ponchos the night before so I was ok with some drizzle as long as we didn't get poured on.
We once again used the Ridemax planning system to map out our day. I heard about it from my friend Jamie before we took a trip to Disneyland maybe 6 years ago and I haven't gone to a Disney park without it ever since. It was exciting planning our rides this year because our kids are getting so big! No strollers, no bags full of cups and diapers, and everyone is getting tall enough to go on some fun rides! I had my camera bag and Mike had a backpack with some bottles of water, snacks and ponchos and we were set.
First in line and one of the first to run into the park, we were off towards our first ride, Space Mountain. And this is a funny story...
So I measured the kids before we left to see which rides they could go on and while Addie was a perfect 48", Preston was just under 44", the cut-off for many rides, including Space Mountain. The plan was that Mike would go on that with the girls, I would go to Buzz Lightyear with Preston and then they would meet us there and we would all ride Buzz again. Well, we were the first ones to make it to Space Mountain so Mike had them measure Preston, just in case, and they had him at just barely 44" and told him he could ride! Hooray! We all ran through the line and got up to the roller coaster cars. Now I had not been on this rides in YEARS since our kids have all been so small and although I did remember it was dark, I had forgotten that you sit single file. So, the first ride for Preston at the magical world of Disney was a super fast, pitch black ride all by himself. Poor guy! He was SCARED. It definitely wasn't his favorite, but luckily he still trusted his mean mom and dad to try out the rest of the rides throughout the day :-).
(we were planning to ride the ferry over but realized after taking this picture that it wasn't running yet so we took the monorail there and took the ferry on our way back home)

Preston and Addie did NOT want to go in the Hautned Mansion, especially Preston, but we made them because we are selfish parents and neither of us wanted to miss it. We each took one with us and helped cover their eyes and ears during the whole ride :-).

Around 11am or so we went to get Fast Passes using the new Disney system and a guy in front of is line asked us what rides we had been on already. We told him it had been a lot but I couldn't even remember them all. Looking back at our plan we had done Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear, Tomorrowland Speedway, Mad Tea Party, Barnstormer, Little Mermaid, Peter Pan, Haunted Mansion and Small World with all except Peter Pan having pretty much no wait at all.
After that we slowed down a bit though and got some lunch. The crowds had picked up a little and we got Fastpasses for our 3 afternoon rides that were going to have the longest wait times (Big Thunder mountain Railroad, Jungle Cruise and Pirates of the Carribean).
do you think that guy in the background is proposing?!

We went on the Astro Orbiter, went to Monster's Inc and Stich's Great Escape (which we will skip next time), watched Mickey's PhilharMagic (one of our favorites that is only at Disneyworld and not at Disneyland) and then walked around Tom Sawyer's Island to kill a little more time until we could start using fast passes.

The kids all love the jungle cruise and when our guide asked if it was anyone's birthday, Preston was quick to let him know that it was Addie's :-).

We ate treats, browsed the stores and bought our souvenirs and then went on the People Mover. I had never been on it before and Preston, after spotting it that morning, had been begging to go on it all day. It was nice and relaxing and then we went to find a spot for the electrical parade. It is amazing to see the route fill up as the parade gets closer! I love the eletric parade although Mike said that it's not his favorite. The kids loved it in any case. Alice said something about Addie's headband as she rode by and I wish I had a picture of Addie's cute little face in reaction to realizing that Alice was talking to her :-). Preston waved frantically to every character that passed and Ella is just big and enjoyed it like me.

We were in a perfect viewing spot for the fireworks but we decided to head back towards the entrance instead so we were in a better spot to exit once they were over. Ella was pretty annoyed about that and Mike and I got a good arm work out alternating holding different kids up so they could see the castle as they displayed different backgrounds coming from various movies on it (the picture below has the lanterns from Tangled). I forgot how amazing the fireworks are!

We ran to the ferry, got taco bell and headed back to the hotel to crash. I think we all slept soundly that night! It was great day at Disney! Not too hot, not too cold, not too crowded and although we thought we might a couple times, we didn't get rained on. Going back through all these pictures just makes me want to go back again :-)!!!
