Back to Fremont, Mike's Home Sweet Home

The morning of the 10th we were headed into Fremont, California where Mike grew up nearly his whole life. We knew we needed to be there by lunch time so we could hit one of our favorite two Mexican restaurants for a shredded beef taco, but since the drive wasn't too far we made a pit stop near Donner's Summit to hike around a bit. The kids LOVE climbing around on huge rocks and since we weren't going to Yosemite this year, this was going to have to hold them over :-). This was our first taste of cooler weather since leaving home as well and it was glorious to not be sweating when outside!
After stuffing ourselves at El Patio we headed to a playground to get out some energy. It was unusually hot this particular afternoon but the kids didn't mind too much of course. Then it was off to the hotel to relax a bit and let Mike and I get some work done on our computers. One thing I didn't anticipate was how much less time I would have on it. When we were in the RV I edited pictures and got things done during much of our driving time. So although the forced break has been nice at times, I definitely missed it as well.
The kids spent a lot of time in the pool over the next couple days. Sitting in the shade was perfect for me and Mike and they almost always had the place to themselves to swim and be crazy. It is so nice to have them all good swimmers now so we don't have to get in unless we want to :-).
We finished our first day in town with more playground time and more good food.
Our Fremont days of the trip were just nice, lazy, true vacation days where we could do what we wanted, when we wanted...and eat way too much.

The kiddos didn't sleep much in the car considering how much driving we did, but Preston sometimes couldn't help himself. The best were the times I was trying to keep him awake because I wanted him to sleep well at night and he would get so frustrated with me. "Moooom, I'm just SOOO tired!!!" said with his eyes half open :-).

"Mom, look at that giant pinecone!!!!" Preston obviously needs more palm trees in his life :-)
