Las Vegas and the Hoover Dam

As we left San Diego it felt like we were finally on our way back home, albeit a long way home :-).
Our original plan did not include a trip to Las Vegas, but Mike found an awesome hotel for super cheap there and the thought of staying somewhere luxurious and spacious was just too tempting :-). Plus, the kids had never seen it and it didn't add very many miles to the trip (and we could add in more yummy meals!). So Sunday, we headed out a day early from Cali. We made it to Vegas in the early evening and got dinner at Cafe Rio, walked through some of the fancy casino hotel lobbies and then got comfy in our room.
We had a pretty chill driving day the next day, so we hung out at the hotel until check out time...Mike took Ella and Preston swimming in the fancy pools and Addie and I enjoyed some peace and quiet. We ate lunch (breakfast) at Hash House...SOOO delicious...and then headed towards the Hoover Dam. It was HOT, I mean, the kind of hot that makes you feel like the sun is frying you the second it hits you. We viewed the dam from the Tillman bridge and then went and actually walked across it as well. It's was cool, but I think you just need to see it once in your life :-). The kids were a bit rough this day so I had bribed them with a cold treat for anyone who didn't complain about being hot while we checked it out...and they all were able to earn their treats. Then it was off to Flagstaff for the night, where we enjoyed a night in this random little chilly mountain town surrounded by hot desert.
