Time Capsule Time (and the journey home)

I just realized I never finished up the trip pictures and with Ella's birthday and first day of school now around the corner I need to get caught up.
Our last day at our campsite was Monday, August 3rd. We had hot chocolate and breakfast around the fire and let the kids burn up a bunch of random things we didn't need anymore...like gross socks and Addie's swim suit. They loved it :-) and then we hopped in the rental car to drive into Yosemite National Park a bit. The kids took turns feeling car sick, but we made it for awhile, saw some pretty views and then drove back out. We rewarded ourselves with Mexican for lunch instead of sandwiches at camp :-). Then it was back to play for awhile longer before loading up. The kids painted rocks for Meema, played in a new area of the creek, rode bikes around the camp loop and then we just had one more important item of business...our time capsule. Two years ago before we left camp we buried a little "time capsule" (post here) so this trip we dug it up! It was surprisingly hard to find haha! Luckily we did find it and then we buried another one until the next time we are here. Hopefully we can find the new one using these pictures as a guide :-).

two years...and it looked perfect! So Mike tried and said it was good and had everyone try it :-)

And burying the new one somewhere else (it has pretty much the same stuff in it).

We got everything loaded up and headed out of Summerdale around 6pm. We stopped back in Fresno to return the rental car and got dinner at Tahoe Joe's. They gave the kids etch-a-sketches while they waited which was an awesome idea!

Mike drove all night, stopping in the wee morning hours once we got through so Cal for a few hours of sleep. Then we had a long day of desert driving ahead of us. We planned the timing of our departure to have us at a Café Rio for lunch though and it hit the spot. Then we kept going and going. Around 11pm I was not feeling sleepy so I took over a leg of the drive while Mike slept in back. He got us almost home, right near Buccees, and needed to sleep again but we were so close to home I finished it up. I don't know how he drove so many hours all within a week! I don't think he ever wants to do it again :-).

We made it home just in time to see Rachel open her mission call! She is going to Detroit in September and will be amazing!
