It's Christmas!!!

Before making the long trek to Texas to visit family and friends, we had the absolutely most lazy and relaxing Christmas EVER! We lounged around the house in our pjs for days while watching Lost, playing on electronics, working on puzzles and crafting (and some swim practices for Ella too of course).
By the time Christmas Eve rolled around it was so nice to get dressed up and head to church. We made a stop at the UGA campus on the way for some quick pictures...definitely what the littles wanted to do ;-). The rest of Christmas Eve however was actually a bit of a nightmare. Addie and Preston were driving us nuts with their fighting and grumblings. It seemed like at least one of them was in trouble all day long and after eating a fancy meal I worked hard on without the fun conversation and mood I had envisioned I was feeling over the whole thing. When it came time to go look at Christmas lights none of us wanted to go but I decided we were going and we were eating candy canes and listening to Christmas music whether we wanted to or not haha. By the end we were all feeling a little more cheery and ended the night on a high watching Santa Claus 3 in new Christmas jammies and reading the Christmas story in the bible before going to bed.
(oh, and we locked ourselves out of the house when we left for church and had to have Preston climb through a high window to let us in...it was quite a day)
I was finishing up tucking in the younger kids when Preston jumped up and told me we didn't put out cookies for Santa!!! Woops. We quickly got that taken care of and Preston tucked back in bed. Not long after I had gone into the kitchen and was walking back to my room when I noticed Preston was up still. I went in to tell him he needed to go to sleep quickly when he looked at me with a face I know well and told me his stomach hurt. "RUN to the toilet!!!" Unfortunately he didn't quite make it and he projectile vomited all over the bathroom. Even when he was by the toilet it was still going all over. The poor little guy! We had him go into the shower where Mike was helping him get cleaned up while I took care of the rest. It was all over his new jammies, the floor, the trash can, the blinds of the window. It was horrible. He was sobbing that it was the worst day of his life :-(. Luckily though he went to sleep and never had another issue all night! And Christmas morning he was good as new!
(also, we were pretty sure we had told Addie about Santa but she definitely fully believes still, so who knows?!)
Christmas day was pretty perfect. The kids were happy and excited and played together all day with minimal fighting, we stayed in our jammies all day long eating lots of junk food, and we never had to leave the house.
We started a few years ago trying to reign in our Christmases a bit because we were definitely feeling like the kids were getting too much and we really don't want them to be spoiled (which is hard to do when you live in Katy and is one thing we have really loved about being in Athens...it is definitely way less about what you have here). Last Christmas we were on an awesome trip and it made it easy to focus on experiences and not things, but being home this year it was definitely more noticeable to me as we set up that night. The kids however didn't seem to notice at all and were thrilled with what they got. They aren't always the best at showing gratitude but we keep doing what we can. Being a parent is such hard work and this month I have definitely felt the weight of it more than normal.
We are looking forward to time with our families during the holiday season...and eating at some of our favorite restaurants too ;-).

December Wrap Up

Odds and Ends from December...
Addie and Preston wrote a 12 days of Pokemon song, there was swim practices, lots of cooking meals at home and making treats including muddy buddies and smores in the fireplace, wildlife spotting in our own backyard, surprise Christmas packages from Nana and Kayley, finishing up Blurb books I've been wanting to make forever (I am in love with our Italy trip book!), kids throwing fits (Addie and Preston were ROUGH this month), kids being adorable and having fun, finishing our world puzzle and starting a Christmas one, getting Ella hooked on Lost and then finding out it was going off Netflix in January so picking up our episode watching pace, Addie and Preston selling mistletoe with Mike's help, Addie's fancy dance and party at school, both kids spent their last day of school at UGA's basketball game, and the most of the time just staying cozy and warm at home :-).
