Girls' Camp 2017 (and Ella's first stitches)

After having such a great time at camp last summer, Ella was even more excited for this year! We were at a new camp and it was much closer to home which was amazing and overall I think everyone agreed that they liked this one better. I was able to be there for the second half of camp and I really felt like the girls in our ward got along so well this time. It wasn't always the same groups of girls hanging out which I loved. I'm so thankful for the leaders that put in so much time and effort to make it an amazing and uplifting week! I'm also thankful there are so many awesome girls Ella's age in our ward and stake!
So, we all met up early Tuesday morning and Ella headed off to the camp. I spent the next 36 hours at home and then left to join them Wednesday afternoon. I was on my way there when I got a call from a number I didn't recognize but luckily answered anyway. It was the camp director letting me know that Ella had an accident during her knife certification and had cut her finger pretty badly. The on-site nurse was pretty sure she needed stitches because of how deep it was and the location (on the joint of her finger) but said she could wait until I got there to be taken to a doctor. I called Mike and he started looking for urgent care offices near the camp. I could not believe the timing of it and was pretty stressed knowing all the important swim meets Ella had coming up within the next few weeks (including one starting the Friday she would be leaving camp).
When I arrived Ella was in good spirits and her cute youth camp leaders were still by her side. The thought of getting stitches stressed her out but other than that she was enjoying all the attention and said "Now I have finally been hurt!" Haha :-). The urgent care wasn't too far, but as all urgent cares go, took forever. The nice doctor told us she would have to be out of the pool for 10 days (and inside I was thinking, yeah right!) and gave her 4 stitches. Ella was brave and said it wasn't as bad as she thought it would be. We stopped at CVS for bandages and her amoxicillin prescription and by that evening she was back at camp like nothing had ever happened.
We had two more fun nights, one rainy day and then headed home Friday morning to get home in time for her big swim meet...stitches and all.

I gave the girls my phone on the car ride home to take pictures with since they were trying to take selfies with a polaroid camera and I had quite the collection to choose from :-). We took some real pictures too before dropping off the first friend :-).

The Shortest Swim Meet Ever!

6-17-17-49
Saturday we had our 3rd of 4 regular season summer swim meets and our only away meet. The meet started at 7:30am (instead of the usual 8) and we were out of there by 11am...it was a swim miracle!!! The whole meet was one of the most pleasant I have ever been to for sure because it seemed less stressful for whatever reason (maybe just the small number of swimmers total? and not having the heat of the afternoon creeping in?).
Ella didn't have her best meet but she had fun swimming up an age group and still winning her races (she is definitely more in long course mode right now). Preston beat all of his times except breaststroke and Addie totally crushed it on her freestyle moving up from 5th on our team to 1st in the whole meet! She was SOOO excited about that race!
I decided to take pictures instead of video-ing the races this meet which was a fun change for me...maybe that played into it being less stressful as well. If every meet went this nicely I wouldn't mind if summer swim lasted all summer long ;-)!

It's so fun to watch Ella dive now because I remember thinking she would never figure out how to jump out and dive! Even when she was becoming a really amazing swimmer her dives were never powerful, but now they are so pretty! (she has the purple Katy cap)
