6th Annual Classic City Quad Swim Meet

This past weekend along with the excitement over snow there was a swim meet that both the girls participated in. Our team hosted the 6th Annual Classic City Quad Meet so it was nice and convenient to have it at our home pool (I still can't believe we get to use the gorgeous facility every single day...we are definitely getting spoiled by it). It was a pretty big deal for Addie because it was her first real swim meet and she did great; I even think she had some fun haha :-). It was very helpful to have Ella there making sure she was lining up for her events on time and everything. I don't know when Addie will do another meet so it was fun to cheer her on...usually the girls are in different sessions because of their ages and since Addie swims for exercise we typically just don't have her compete but this time it was one big session each day with all the ages at once.
Overall the girls both swam well! Ella dropped time in all but one event and although she isn't hitting her goal times, short course season is a long slow buid-up for her usually so she is actually doing a lot better than is typical for this time of the year. Addie got B times on her breaststroke events which she was really excited about even though I'm pretty sure she has no idea what that means. She also fully enjoyed the warm-up pool where she spent most of her time diving to the bottom of the pool and doing flips instead of swimming laps...that kid!
(this wasn't a meet that was scored so all results were just in 2 groups...12 and under/13 and over)

Winter Wonderland

12-9-17-18
One of the things the kids were excited about when we decided to come to Georgia for the year was the prospect of being close to snow. Preston REALLY wanted it to snow at our house, but we had explained that it's a little colder than Texas but still not likely to snow where we would be. The good news was that if you drive only a couple hours away you can be in mountains that offer real snow FOR SURE each winter so our plan has been to drive there during Christmas break sometime to check it out.
Well, a chance for snow appeared on the forecast last week and Preston was beside himself with excitement! Each morning when he woke up he would run in to check the weather on the computer to see if the chance was still there. It looked like we still had a 50/50 shot but then the unthinkable happened...Katy, TX got their first snow in 8 years!!! Preston was a little baby the last time it happened so he has no memory of it and it doesn't count to him. And they didn't just get a little snow, some areas of town actually got a ton! I couldn't believe it as I went through picture after picture on my instagram feed the next day...what are the odds?! Our own chances weren't looking as good anymore and I felt so badly for Preston!
On Friday night it looked like the front may move close enough to us for us to get some (all during the day the front was pretty near to us, one side getting snow and the other side staying dry...we of course were on the wrong side). That night as he went to sleep Preston prayed, "...please bless it will snow, please bless the 90% chance from 4-7am will stay or be higher, please bless we won't get sick tonight so that if it snows we can go play in it..." For his sake I REALLY hoped we would get some!
Saturday morning we looked out our windows and there was nothing :-(. Mike said that just 30 minutes away they were getting a lot though and he and Preston convinced the rest of us that we HAD to go and check it out. All of us girls were reluctant to leave the warmth of our home but in the end we were glad that we went. Even with their knit gloves that got soaked after just a minute in the snow, the kids had so much fun playing as it fell down around them.
This week we just have freezing temperatures and no snow...better for driving but not as much fun :-).

And On To December!

How are we more than a week into December already?! It is definitely feeling like winter here and I'm not sure how I feel about that, but other than that it's always a good thing for it to FEEL like December :-).
We have been cooking pretty much every meal at home and now that I am not so busy with my photography I have really enjoyed getting back into the cooking groove! I went through my old recipe blog and deleted out almost 200 recipes that I knew I would never make again and book-marked tons of old ones I had forgotten about to try again, plus I have actually been adding a couple new ones as we discover some that we really love. ( On My Menu )
November was a good month though for sure! We definitely have a lot to be thankful for and I really needed to re-focus on those things again. Here are the highlights from the rest of our month of thanksgiving...
