Girls' Camp 2017 (and Ella's first stitches)

After having such a great time at camp last summer, Ella was even more excited for this year! We were at a new camp and it was much closer to home which was amazing and overall I think everyone agreed that they liked this one better. I was able to be there for the second half of camp and I really felt like the girls in our ward got along so well this time. It wasn't always the same groups of girls hanging out which I loved. I'm so thankful for the leaders that put in so much time and effort to make it an amazing and uplifting week! I'm also thankful there are so many awesome girls Ella's age in our ward and stake!
So, we all met up early Tuesday morning and Ella headed off to the camp. I spent the next 36 hours at home and then left to join them Wednesday afternoon. I was on my way there when I got a call from a number I didn't recognize but luckily answered anyway. It was the camp director letting me know that Ella had an accident during her knife certification and had cut her finger pretty badly. The on-site nurse was pretty sure she needed stitches because of how deep it was and the location (on the joint of her finger) but said she could wait until I got there to be taken to a doctor. I called Mike and he started looking for urgent care offices near the camp. I could not believe the timing of it and was pretty stressed knowing all the important swim meets Ella had coming up within the next few weeks (including one starting the Friday she would be leaving camp).
When I arrived Ella was in good spirits and her cute youth camp leaders were still by her side. The thought of getting stitches stressed her out but other than that she was enjoying all the attention and said "Now I have finally been hurt!" Haha :-). The urgent care wasn't too far, but as all urgent cares go, took forever. The nice doctor told us she would have to be out of the pool for 10 days (and inside I was thinking, yeah right!) and gave her 4 stitches. Ella was brave and said it wasn't as bad as she thought it would be. We stopped at CVS for bandages and her amoxicillin prescription and by that evening she was back at camp like nothing had ever happened.
We had two more fun nights, one rainy day and then headed home Friday morning to get home in time for her big swim meet...stitches and all.

I gave the girls my phone on the car ride home to take pictures with since they were trying to take selfies with a polaroid camera and I had quite the collection to choose from :-). We took some real pictures too before dropping off the first friend :-).
