Ed Sheeran's Houston Concert

8-19-17-28
On Saturday, August 19th, Mike and I were able to go see Ed Sheeran in concert at the Toyota Center. I was really, really excited for this one! Ed is such a talented musician and I knew we had great seats guaranteed, not just in a pit like our last show. James Blunt was the opening act and he was really good too! It's always nice when the opening act has at least one song you know and is entertaining as well. The first time we saw Ed Sheeran was as the opening act for Taylor Swift in 2013 and we were really impressed with him then. It's always fun to see an artist when they are just starting to make it big and then watch them again years later and see how far they have come.
We stayed in our seats during James Blunt and then when Ed came out and people stood up and went closer to the stage we jumped over the row of chairs in front of us and were able to stand in the center of the stage behind one row of people. It was a great viewing point and I tried to record lots of video this time because I was disappointed I didn't do more at the Third Eye Blind concert. I actually really love going back and watching them :-)!

First Day of School!!!

8-16-17-8
The first day of school (Aug 16th) completely snuck up on this year! We hardly had a chance to unpack our bags before the kids were off to school. Also, since we knew going in that the kids would only be in school for two months we were only half-heartedly preparing anyway (buying the least amount of supplies as possible, etc). The kids were excited to see their friends though and I was really, really excited to get back in a routine and have some peace and quiet in the house during the days, especially after our big road trip. We know all Addie and Preston's teachers from previous years which is nice and Ella ended up with quite a few friends in her classes which she was excited about. The highlight for us though is that Ella gets to leave school an hour early because of all the swimming she does. It takes us literally 10-15 minutes from the time we leave our house to swing up in front of the middle school to pick her up and be home...amazing!!! Another amazing turn of events is that the little kids are riding the bus home. When the elementary school sent out an email with the new dismissal plan before school started I knew it was not a good change for the car rider line so we decided to have the kids be bike riders instead. Although the bike ride is fun, it is still August in Houston and it is HOT! When we rode our bikes home the second day of school the bus was pulling up right as we got home...a miracle!!! Part of why we stopped riding the bus in the first place is because it got home nearly 45 minutes after school got out which was ridiculous consider how close we live, but now that is not an issue. With these two changes we no longer wait in ANY parent pick-up lines which is giving us hours upon hours of our lives back! It will be a great two months :-)!

We had our traditional fancy back to school dinner the night before school started with spaghetti, salad and garlic bread. Preston and Addie made a beautiful lego centerpiece and I explained our new theme for the year, Love One Another. We went around to say things we love about each person in the family (we do this at Valentine's day as well, but with all the time we spent together in the car and all the time we will be spending together this year I thought this was a perfect theme for us...plus we should always love everyone!) and then we set our new goals for the school year.

The kids had a great first day and we went out to dinner that night to celebrate. Later that evening Nana stopped by with some special treats for the kiddos. Hooray for school :-)!!!
